Building Self Confidence

'' Self-confidence is the best outfit, rock it and own it. ''

Confidence and having self-esteem is a topic I believe all of us have had a bit of a hard time with. I think we've all struggled with not feeling good about ourselves and not having enough confidence and courage to stand out and speak our mind. I have always been a bit of an introvert and I don't really like speaking out and sharing my thoughts with a large crowd, but lately I have been working hard to improve that and be a bit more open and outgoing. Of course, I still have a lot more to go and I am nowhere as near as I would like to, but I wanted to share some of the thoughts and ideas that have helped me overcome my shyness and step out of my shell, as they might help some of you (and also I to look back on when I am feeling down)! Also, I was inspired to do this post by this video, because it is very inspiring and amazing to watch if you're feeling a bit down :)

First thing I wanted to discuss is thinking positive. This may seem obvious, but if you surround yourself with positivity and positive people, you'll have a better outlook on life and not feel negative. If there's one instant way to boost your confidence is to simply smile. The great thing about confident people is that you don't ever see them frowning or focusing on negative side of things! I believe that when you're always happy, you attract that happiness and positivity and spread it around too!

Another thing is I always strive to be is being kind. Kindness, to me is one of the most important things you can achieve and it is easy to be hateful and mean, it takes strength to be kind. You never know how someone's feeling or what they're going through, so why would you want to add to that, when you can be gentle and compassionate? Also, when you are kinder towards others, you tend to treat and think of yourself in a kinder way too. And the way you treat other people is how they will treat you, believe me!

Stop comparing yourself  to others! That is genuinely one of the most important things on the road of self-confidence. Too many days are wasted in comparing ourselves to other people and wishing to be something we are not. Everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses and it is only when you accept everything you are-and also what you are not-that you will truly succeed. There's this quote from a children's book which I read recently that says: '' You are you, that is truer than true, there is no one alive who is youer than you! ''. And I love that, because there will always be someone who is prettier or taller or smarter or younger, but they will never be you!

Share your thoughts and insecurities. This is something I have been working very hard on. I have always been the one to bottle things up and keep most of the things to myself, because I felt my issues were minor and needn't to be shared, because they might cause people to worry when there is nothing to be worried about. But sharing your problems is so important, because not only does it make you feel better, but also connect you with people on a more personal level. Nobody has it perfect so when you share your thoughts with others, they will surely give you some good advice and help you, even a little bit, to overcome with what you're dealing with. So if you were like me, always keeping to yourself, try opening up a bit, at least to your family and closest friends and you'll feel much better, I promise!

Another very important thing on the journey of feeling more confident is to not care about what others think! This one's hard, I know, but try to think about it this way: '' What Susie says about Sally, says more about Susie than it does about Sally '', that means what other people say about you, if they gossip or even say mean things to your face, says nothing about you or who you are, but about them. Confident people don't discuss others or dwell on what people say about them, they simply focus on being a better person for themselves! Also, a great advice about this topic as well is: ''Confidence isn't saying ''they will like me''. Confidence is '' I'll be fine if they don't''

Find something you're good at and work hard on that! This is also very important when wanting to be more confident. Simply find something you love and do more of it. Hard work really pays of and there is nothing better than succeeding at something you truly love! Whether it be dance, art, music, maths, learning languages, playing the piano, just try your best and it will be amazing!

Here's something I am also trying my hardest to accomplish, don't dwell on your mistakes! With working hard, comes failure and that is not something that's always easy to accept. If you go outside your comfort zone, if you try to accomplish anything that is meaningful and important to you, you will have to fail at least at some point. And that is OK. It is normal, it's what all successful people have gone through, even if we don't hear about it as often as we hear about their success. Did you know that JK Rowling was rejected at least about dozen times for Harry Potter and now it is the most popular and wonderful book and movie series on the planet? As another quote says: '' Those who dare to fail miserably. can achieve greatly''! So always try to handle handle mistakes and failures in a more positive way.

Body language says a lot about you! This has to be one of the most valuable things I have recently learned. The way you present yourself says more about you than you think! If you are always slouching, going around with your head down and with a frown on your face, you will not make such a great first impression, let's be honest. So, always try to walk straight with a smile on your face, open yourself a bit more and always stay positive! Acting that way will instantly make you seem more confident and will attract more people :)

Do things on your own. Hard, but not impossible. The way to become a more mature and grown up is to simply rip off that bandage and just start doing things yourself. Maybe you could go to the movies by yourself or go on a long walk on your own. That way you'll become a little bit more independent and also a bit more confident! And if you are worried about looking weird, I promise you no one will care, if anything you might meet some new friends :)

The best advice I can give you is to just fake it till you make it! We are all on this journey together and nobody's every day is perfect and we all feel bad about ourselves sometimes. It is vital to remember that confidence is like a muscle: the more you use it, the stronger it gets!

Also, the final thing I wanted to say was to always take care and appreciate yourself! Don't forget that in the end of the day, you are there for yourself and you should learn to appreciate yourself just the way you are. Another thing, make yourself a priority once in a while! It's not selfish, it's necessary.

I hope you guys have enjoyed this post and just remember that you are all amazing and wonderful just the way you are, no matter how cliche that may sound, you really are! Until next time, lots and lots of love, M xx

  21. I absolutely love this post. I struggle badly with my self confidence. Iv been put through it with so called friends and life events I feel I have lost every inch of self confidence I had. It's hard when people talk about you behind your back and the hardest is learning to not let it bother you.
These are some great points I'm going to save so I can keep going back to it on a bad day.

  30. Acquire The Best Assertiveness and Self Confidence Skills Now! People do not listen to those who are submissive. Human nature has a cruel streak. They tend to take advantage of those whom they think as weak. Because passive people are too nice to enforce themselves on others, people often take advantage of them, or at times, they go unnoticed by others. If you are a submissive person, you will relate to this.

People do not like those who are aggressive. On the other hand, there are those who are aggressive in nature. They often tread into the independence of others. Hence, they are disliked by all. If you are an aggressive person, think about what kind of support you can get from the people around you.

  31. It's not difficult to lose certainty in the event that you trust you haven't accomplished anything. Make a rundown of the multitude of things you're glad for in your life, regardless of whether it's getting a decent blemish on a test or figuring out how to surf. Keep the rundown nearby and add to it at whatever point you accomplish something you're pleased with. At the point when you're low in confidence, pull out the rundown and use it to help yourself to remember all the wonderful stuff you've done.
