All About Movies

12:51:00 PM

Is there anything better than cozying up on the sofa and having endless movie marathons, while the outside is pouring down with rain? The fall weather basically screams movie nights, so for today's post I wanted to share with you all my favorite movies! I would consider myself a movie junkie, because I watch way too many of them and I never miss out an opportunity to go to the cinema and watch the latest installments, but my most favorite way to enjoy them is by sitting at home with popcorn and other snacks and hot beverages. So as a self proclaimed 'movie obsessed' I even put these movies into categories, so I am certain you will find some that you'll like. Let's start!

Movies to make you laugh

If you are in the mood for a good cry-laugh, feel good movie, then these ones are definitely for you!

1. Bridesmaids - I am pretty sure most of you have watched and loved this movie all ready, but just in case you haven't this is your reminder to definitely check it out! It stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and a bunch of other amazing and hilarious actresses and it is a must see for me. Bridesmaids is one of my ultimate favorite movies and I always put it on when I am in the mood for a good laugh!

2. The Heat - another Melissa McCarthy movie and just as hilarious and awesome as Bridesmaids. This time she has teamed up with Sandra Bullock who plays an uptight FBI agent and Melissa a funny, big mouth Boston cop. When Melissa's and Sandra's characters team up on a special mission, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies. I laughed out loud watching this, so I firmly recommend it to you!

3. Easy A - a movie that made me fall in love with Emma Stone, one of my now ultimate favorite actresses. If you like Mean Girls, then you will surely like this one as it is even funnier and wittier! A must see for me.

4. She's The Man - an older movie which is still a classic comedy for me. Amanda Bynes is perfect in this movie and these kind of roles really suited her. Also young Channing Tatum is in this movie as well, so if you haven't seen it already, clear out your schedule and do it now.

Movies to make you cry

We're all sometimes in a mood for a good cry and a nice sentimental, heart-felt movie which will play on our heart strings and leave us sobbing for a good three days straight, right? I love watching sad movies and if they leave me in tears after I've finished it, then I now it is a good movie! Here are my recommendations and if you decide to watch any of these, make sure you have tissues:

1. Marley and Me - one of my all time favorites! Just a little warning if you have never seen it before, don't be fooled by the happy trailer, because believe me this movie will leave you in a crying mess (at least it did to me)! Such a perfect movie for all animal lovers.

2. The Fault In Our Stars - even though I thought the book was a bit better, the film didn't dissapoint me either. Ansel Elgort and Shailenne Woodley did such a wonderful job portraying Hazel and Augustus and I walked out of the cinema with tears in my eyes. If you plan on watching it, prepare tissues!

3. Me Before You - a newer one and a definite sob fest! Such a heart breaking and yet really hopeful movie, the story of Lou and Will can warm even the coldest of hearts

4. 12 Years A Slave - no wonder this movie won an Oscar in 2013, because it is just perfect. It was a bit hard too watch at times, because it tells such a deep and heart-wrenching story, but by the end you will end up feeling richer by another experience and it will leave you in awe.

5.Saving Mr Banks - I was not expecting to cry at this one, but boy was I wrong? This lovely Disney production tells the story of the Mary Poppins writer and Disney's struggles of getting her to let him make a movie of her book. So heart-warming and lovely and it stars two incredible actors Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks. If you asked me, what my favorite movie was, this one would certainely be the answer!

Perfect for a girl's night in

Stuck on what too watch for your next sleepover with your best friends? Fear no more, I got you covered.

1. Mean Girls - I am pretty sure most of you can quote it word from word, because this movie is just an iconic one!

2. Clueless - another classic and girl's night must! AS IF.

3. Cinderella - I thought last year's version of live action of Cinderella was so wonderful and I loved it so much. '' Have courage and be kind ''.

4. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days - another absolute classic girly movie. Kate Hudson and Matthew McCounaughey did such a perfect job and their chemistry in this is incredible

5. Hocus Pocus - an old Disney movie perfect for this time of the year! I have to watch at least once every fall season haha.

6. When Harry met Sally - another oldie, but so beautiful. This story which features Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan is so lovely and touching and I couldn't love it more.

Comforting movies

You know those days when you aren't really feeling your best and need something to cheer you up. These are my pick-me-up, feel-good movies which when I put them on instantly put me in a nice mood.

1. Saving Mr Banks - Saving Mr Banks making this list once again, because as it is sad, as it is comforting and heart-warming as any Disney movie could be.

2. The Big Wedding - a movie with an amazing all star cast which ultimately promises to be good. It tells a few separate stories of a family which are all connected and it is really funny and insanely feel-good. Whenever I am not feeling my best. I just put it on and there's a smile on my face.

3. Mother's Day - I watched it fairly recently and I loved it so much. It is as amazing as any other Jennifer Aniston movie, because she is an amazing actress. Also Shay Mitchell from PLL is in this as well and she is great in it!

4. Love Actually - a perfect Christmas classic. It just isn't Christmas, if you don't watch Love Actually at least once. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, there is still enough time to watch it!

Classics / Must sees

And finally, I am giving you a list of my classic and must see movies. Each one of these left a big impact on me and I still turn to them and like to watch them from time to time. Here they are:

1. Harry Potter Series - my childhood! Harry Potter movies really are incredible and I just couldn't love all of the movies more, they are all so perfect, and that's even a small word for them. I always like to go back and watch them, because as JK Rowling said '' Whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home ''

2.Gone Girl - such a thrilling movie which left me in awe. The book is incredible and filled with unexpected twists and the movie isn't a let down either.

3.Sleepless in Seattle - a really old 80s movie which I watched a while back with my mom and I loved it. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in their prime time will not let you down with this insanely beautiful romantic story.

4. The Breakfast Club - another 80s movie that made a huge impact on me. A definite must see for all high schoolers and even people of any age, because the stories of students who are all different and yet the same will not leave you disappointed. The core scene where they are all sitting in a circle and confessing their stories to one another is so incredible and touching and I love watching this movie every time as if it is the first!

5. Legally Blonde - it may seem like a superficial story when you first watch the trailer, but it is so much more than that. Reese Witherspoon who plays a now iconic character Elle Woods is so amazing, smart and she stands up for herself and she believes in her dreams and ultimately makes the come true. A definite must see for me!

6. Grease - an iconic musical. I am pretty sure you all know the songs by heart and love this movie, but I just had to include it, because it really is amazing and the soundtrack is beyond its time!

7. It's a Wonderful Life - such an old movie which I watched with my grandma for the first time a really long time ago and it has since become our Christmas tradition. A heart-warming classic which you just have to watch, if you have not already!

Whew, that's it. If you have made it this far, I thank you, because I really have made this post way too long, but I just didn't want to leave out any really good ones. Let me know what are your classic favorite movies and if you want to do me a post like this on Disney films or Christmas, tell me, because I would love to do that. Love, M xx

  3. Honestly..Cinderella is and always will be my ALL-TIME favorite Disney Princess; I always opt for the original animation movie rather than the new version. And Mean Girls and High School Musical (the first one, potentially the second one) would defo be my go-to of classic,all-time faves when getting my girl mates together for a movie night in. Another movie I'd recommend would be the Hunger Games Series- I love the movies but obviously prefer the books.
